Martin Gramatica is a place kicker for the NFL's New Orleans Saints. After playing college football for Kansas State, he was chosen in the third round of the 1999 draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was the 80th pick overall.

Gramatica played for Tampa Bay from 1999-2003. In eight NFL seasons over nine years, he has played for five teams. After kicking for Tampa Bay, he went to the Indianapolis Colts (2004, 2006). He was an off-season member of the New England Patriots in 2006 and then played for the Dallas Cowboys (2006-2007) and the New Orleans Saints (2007-present).

In his first four seasons with Tampa Bay, Gramatica was ranked as one of the best place kickers in the NFL. In 2003, he began to falter on kicks of 40 or more yards. In 2004, the problem did not abate. At the end of that season, the Bucs released him.

He then began a series of seasons where he moved from team to team being released and signed by another and sometimes released and resigned by the same club. During that time, he revealed that he felt the reason for his decline had to do with torn muscles in his lower abdomen and lower abductor. He had them repaired after the 2004 season, but they were not fully healed in 2005. That year Gramatica was unsigned.

He was contracted by the Patriots to replace Adam Vinatieri, who as a free agent went to the Colts. But New England released him on August 23, 2006, deciding to retain rookie kicker Stephen Gostkowski. Gramatica signed a deal with the Colts on September 22 to backup Vinatieri. He was released on October 4 and then resigned by Indy four days later. Then the Colts released him again. The Cowboys contracted the kicker on November 27 after releasing Mike Vanderjagt.

After signing a two-year deal with Dallas in 2007, he was injured and released on September 2 of that year. He was hired on December 12, 2007, by the Saints and is still under contract with them.

In eight seasons, Gramatica has appeared in 104 games, hitting 77.2-percent of his field goals and accumulating 659 points. His longest field goal is from 55 yards. He’s split the uprights twice from that distance.
