Jared Allen

Defensive tackle Jared Allen is presently a member of the Minnesota Vikings. Allen, who was taken by Kansas City in the fourth round of the 2004 draft, was the 126th overall pick. He played with the Chiefs from 2004 through 2007.

Allen played his college ball at Idaho State University where he started 33 of 41 games. At ISU, he was a four-time All-Big Sky Conference selection, accumulating 250 tackles, 73 stops for loses, 38.5 sacks and 13 forced fumbles. He also posted 26 pass deflections, seven fumble recoveries, three interceptions and a blocked kick. While at ISU, he won the Buck Buchanan Award (2003).

With the Chiefs, Allen played in 61 of 64 possible games. After a slow first year, the DE posted three straight standout seasons. Over the course of his career, he's made 43 sacks, forced 13 fumbles and made one pick. He's totaled 230 tackles with 200 being solo. He was an All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection in 2007.

The six-foot-six, 270-pound DE is a true competitor with a high running engine and extreme focus. His first-step quickness is better than average, and his primary burst brings pressure on the edges. He's got good counter moves and has done well in utilizing his hands. After his first season, his got much better at reacting to rushing plays. Allen is a fine finisher who can wrap up players when he tackles. Aggressive and devoted to every play, he's a real gamer.

Allen has had issues off the field. He has been arrested for DUI three times. The first was in 2002 when he was a college student. In 2006, when he was with the Chiefs, he was taken into custody twice for DUI. The first time was on May 11 and the second on September 26. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail as a result of the September arrest. Since 2006, he has kept his record clean.
