Casey Bramlet is presently fourth on the depth chart for San Diego quarterbacks. After playing for the University of Wyoming, he was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL Draft.
While at the University of Wyoming, Bramlet set team records for career passing yards (9,684), touchdown passes (56) and pass completions (767). He passed for 3,000-plus yards in each of three separate seasons, making him the only UW quarterback to do so. He also scored 14 rushing touchdowns. He made Second-team All-Mountain West (2001).
Bramlet has been with numerous teams. After signing with the Bengals in 2004, he saw no action. Originally listed third on the depth chart by the end of the season he was second. He was released by Cincinnati before the start of the 2005 season. He signed with the Washington Redskins in 2006 and part of 2007. In 2006, the Skins sent him to NFL Europe's Hamburg Sea Devils. He threw seven TDs and 10 INTs with the Sea Devils and scored a record of 5 and 5. He also played with Hamburg in 2007. In August 2007, he contracted with the Atlanta Falcons but was released in September. In October 2007, he was signed to the Miami Dolphins practice squad and in December of that year he was put on the roster. The Dolphins released him on April 25, 2008. The Chargers claimed him off waivers the next day.
The six-foot-four, 227-pound Bramlet offers good size, allowing him to see over defenses and take hits. But he doesn't have the skills to play at the NFL level. He performed adequately in NFL Europe, but he lacks the experience and time to develop into a NFL signal caller.
