Erik Ainge quarterbacked the Tennessee Volunteers prior to entering the NFL Draft in 2008. He was chosen in round five as the 162nd overall pick and is currently listed third on the depth chart.

While at Tennessee, Ainge was SEC Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2006. He was SEC Offensive Freshman of the Year (2004) and was the MVP of the Outback Bowl (2008). In four years with the Vols, he started 43 games, passing for 8,700 yards and throwing 72 touchdowns. His completion rate was 60.6-percent. He also tossed 35 interceptions.

Ainge is good-sized at six-foot-six and 225 pounds. His timing, arm strength and touch are all up to NFL standards. He's a solid pocket passer who ably reads defenses. Ainge is a tough competitor with great intangibles and a wealth of experience. He's smart and capable of improving. On the down side, Ainge can be sloppy and inconsistent, giving up the interception. He's not very mobile and has difficulty throwing on the run. As a NFL player, he can go either way. He does have the potential to be a starter. Only time will tell.
