After playing his college ball for University of Alabama at Birmingham, quarterback Darrell Hackney went undrafted in 2006. That year, he was signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Browns but was with the team as an unrostered player and cut before the start of the season. In 2007, he joined the Denver Broncos. He is their third-string QB.
At UAB, he set numerous school records, including most passing yards (9,886 yards), touchdowns (71), completions (694) and total offense per game (243.4 YPG). In 2002, he was designated as a C-USA All-Freshman and as Sporting News C-USA Freshman of the Year.
Hackney, who has seen no action as a pro, seems to have more of a downside than an up. He's got a strong arm and is able to air the ball out but is inaccurate and prone to throwing picks. He's also small (five-foot-eleven) and slow for an NFL signal caller.
