Quarterback Matt Baker, who played his college ball at North Carolina, went undrafted in 2006 and was signed by the Houston Texans as a free-agent that same year. After being released by the Texans, Baker was then signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad (2006-2007), and after being waived in July 2007 by Dallas, he was signed by New Orleans. The Saints released him in August 2007. He was signed to the Arizona Cardinals practice squad in October 2007. He was later released by the Cards and contracted by the Miami Dolphins in January 2008. They waived him, and he was claimed off waivers by the Bills later in 2008 and is presently listed fourth on their depth chart.
Baker is a much traveled practice squad QB who is short of having the skills to be a NFL player. The six-foot-two, 210-pound quarterback lacks the bulk to be a player and is undisciplined when making decisions. He has good leadership skills but possesses below average arm strength and is prone to throwing the pick. He only played one full-season in college and lacks the experience to adapt to NFL play.
