Quarterback Trent Edwards, who played his college ball for Stanford, was a third round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. Edwards, who was chosen by the Buffalo Bills, was the 92nd player taken in the draft.

While at Stanford, Edwards was Sporting News Freshman All-Pac-10 (2003) and Stanford Cardinal Team MVP (2005). In 2005, he started all 11 games, completing 168 of 268 passes (62.7-percent) for 1,934 yards and 17 touchdowns. In 2007, he started the first seven games but suffered a season-ending injury. Although the team had a 10-20 record with Edwards at the helm, he was of interest to NFL teams due to his smarts, accuracy and strength.

Edwards made his pro start with the Bills when starter J.P. Losman was injured in the first quarter of a game versus the New England Patriots. In that contest he went 10 of 20 for 97 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. In 2007, Edwards played in 10 games, making 151 of 269 passes (56.1-percent) and accumulating 1,630 yards. He hit for seven touchdowns and threw eight interceptions. His QB rating was 70.4.

Edwards, who is six-foot-four and 231 pounds, is the right size for a NFL quarterback. He got a fine passing touch, has good velocity when delivering the ball to intermediate routes and has shown improvement in many areas. He does well with developing plays, ably adjusting to situations that arise whether its hitting a late breaking receiver or tucking the ball under and dashing for the first down marker. He can take a hit when passing and has good toughness. Overall, he's still working on his reads and checking off. He's had some injury issues that could compromise his performance and shorten his career. Edwards is listed a the starting QB for the 2008 season.
