Drew Brees is the starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints who was a round two 2001 draft pick for the San Diego Chargers. Brees, who played his NCAA football at Purdue, was the 32nd pick overall.

He played for the Chargers from 2001-2005. He then signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints in 2006 and is presently their starting quarterback.

As a college player, Bress received numerous awards and honors, including Big Ten Football MVP (2000), the Maxwell Award (2000) and Academic All-American Player of the Year (2000). Brees finished his college career with 11,792 passing yards, 90 touchdown passes and 12,693 total yards—all of which are Big Ten Conference records.

Brees' first three years with San Diego were spotty. He played in one game in 2001. In 2002, he started all 16 regular-season contests, completing 60.2-percent of his passes for 3,284 yards, 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His rating was 76.9. In 2003, he competed in just 11 games as injury forced him out for the rest of the season. The following year, he won the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award, throwing 27 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He completed 65.5-percent of his passes and accumulated 3,169 passing yards.

In 2006, he signed with the New Orleans Saints and has been their starting QB for the past two seasons. He's thrown for over 4,000 yards each of those seasons. Over the course of seven seasons, he has connected on 63.7-percent of his passes for a total of 21,189 yards, 134 touchdowns and a rating of 87.9. He's tossed 82 interceptions. He was a Pro-Bowler in 2004 and 2006 and All-Pro in 2006.

Although Brees does not have the best arm strength, he makes quick, sound decisions, possesses good timing and touch and has refined his accuracy. He can get yards on the bootleg and roll out, has fine ball handling skills and reads defenses quickly and accurately. His pocket presence is first-rate and his game management skills have improved. Although he stands just six-foot-even and weighs 209 pounds, he's managed to work around the dilemma of having a small physical frame. Still, he has trouble seeing over other players and does get balls swiped away and knocked down. Brees is a tough competitor and hard worker.
