Richard Bartel is the third-string quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. He played for Tarleton State after transferring from SMU. He was not drafted in 2007. The Cowboys signed him that year but cut him on September 1. They then signed him to the practice squad the next day.

Bartel is big, standing six-foot-four and weighing 246 pounds. He is seen as being a raw talent and will probably be assigned once again to the practice squad for further grooming. Bartel was rated 41 out of 103 quarterbacks at the 2007 Combine.

In 2005, he completed 153 of 253 passes (60.5%), compiling 1,883 yards and hitting for a dozen touchdowns. He threw 11 interceptions. Presently, he’s part of the Cowboys' long-range plans.
