Alcides Eduardo Mendes de Araujo Alves, better known simply as Alcides, is a Brazilian football player who currently features for the Premiership side Chelsea FC. He plays as a defender.

Alcides commenced his football career at Brazilian side Vitoria in the 2002-2003 season but played just 6 league matches that season. He was kidnapped while he was in Brazil and could only free himself after he convinced his kidnappers that he is not a football player.

In 2003 Alcides moved to Schalke 04 and in 2004 moved back to Brazil to play for Santos. In 004 he was signed by Chelsea but played the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 seasons on loan at Portuguese giants Benfica. He was loaned out to Dutch powerhouse PSV Eindhoven for the 2007-2008 season and was a regular starter for them in the first season.
