James Scott Beattie is an English football player who currently features for the Premier League club Stoke City. He plays as a striker.

James Beattie commenced his professional club football career at English club Blackburn Rovers on October 12,1996 against Arsenal in a match that they lost 2-0. He played for them until 1998, featuring in four league matches and was signed by Southampton in July 1998 for 1 million pounds, as part of a deal that saw Kevin Davies move to Blackburn Rovers for 7 million pounds.

It was at Southampton that James Beattie established himself and started gaining attention. He went onto feature in 204 league matches for the Saints, scoring 68 goals.

In January 2005 Everton signed James Beattie for 6 million pounds but Beattie failed to exhibit his prolificacy at Goodison Park, scoring only 13 goals in 76 Premier League matches. He was, however, Everton’s top goalscorer in the 2005-2006 season with ten goals in the Premier League and one in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League against Villarreal.

James Beattie was signed by Sheffield United in the summer of 2007 for 4 million pounds and he recovered his scoring boots for United. He scored 34 goals in 62 league matches and in January 2009 was signed by Stoke City on a two-and-a-half year deal.

James Beattie made his international debut for England against Australia on February 12,2003 just 15 days before his 25th birthday. He has played in four more international matches for England since then.
