In 2005, he was signed by the Minnesota Twins as a backup to rookie shortstop Jason Bartlett.
On June 15, 2006, he was traded back to the Cincinnati Reds for minor league outfielder Brandon Roberts.
On April 21, 2008, he was designated for assignment by the Reds, and became a free agent on May 2, 2008. He played for a time with the Colorado Rockies' AAA affiliate, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, then was traded to the Baltimore Orioles on July 19, 2008, and was immediately added to their major league roster.
