Yvonne had an early start and background on self-defense. She was only 8 years old when she started learning about martial arts, initially doing so to learn self-defense. Later on, after dabbling with sports other than martial arts, she started to learn kickboxing. It was through this path that she met her future trainer, Bonnie Canino, who was also a champion boxer and kickboxer.
Yvonne had a good start playing as an amateur boxer. In fact, she kept a good and quite impressive track record of 14-3 as an amateur boxer. She was able to beat Robin Labuda in the 2001 US Women’s Golden Gloves, reached the semifinals in the 2001 USA Boxing National Championships, beat Roselin Morales in the 2002 US Nationals and became the national champion, defeated Jenna Johlin in the finals of the 2002 US Women’s Golden Gloves and also reached the semifinals in the 2002 Women’s World Championships.
When Yvonne debuted as a professional boxer on December 21, 2002, she continued her winning streak. In her professional debut fight against Bonnie Mann, Yvonne emerged victorious. On April 4, 2003, Yvonne impressed the world of professional boxing, when she beat Cynthia Jones and the match-up produced a great fight.
Yvonne was deemed a great fighter, not letting even illness stop her from fighting. In one instance, Yvonne fought against undefeated Leatitia Robinson for the IWBF Middleweight title while having the flu – Yvonne lost. However, Yvonne took it upon herself to learn from the experience in order to become a better boxer. This impressed her fans even more.
Yvonne is known to be a thinking fighter. She chooses her moves well and always has a technique to follow in every fight which helps her get through unscathed. Yvonne boxes because she loves the sport and it is a passion for her. She always takes it upon herself to train to become a better boxer. Yvonne has fought a total of 20 fights, winning 7 bouts, losing 12 and has 1 draw.
