The “Wild Thing” in the women boxing ring is Australian boxer Sharon Anyos. Aside from boxing, Sharon is also a kick boxer and karate athlete. Born on October 13, 1970, she entered her first fighting competition when she was only six and continued to compete until she was 16.
In 1986, Sharon entered the Australian Koshiki Full Contact and immediately won the Australian Women’s title. She also joined the Brogoli Championships in Hawaii in 1989. She earned the second place in the Champion of Champions, first place in Black Belt Forms, and second place in Black Belt Fighting. She was fourth place at the Kobota World Cup in Los Angeles in 1989. That same year she won the WAKO Australian Kickboxing Lightweight Title over Narelle Rockall and Nadine McDonald.
Her victories lead her to seriously compete in Kickboxing and Muay Thai. From 1991 to 1997 she continued to win competitions except her defeat against Stephanie Curtiss in 1993. She won the WKO action, WAKO action, ISKA Australian title.
Sharon’s professional debut in boxing came in July 1998 which was the very first sanctioned women’s boxing bout in Australia. She competed and won the ANBF Women’s Junior Lightweight Title by Technical Knockout in the second round at the Carrara Basketball Stadium.
She also defeated Holly Ferneley by a unanimous decision and won the OBA Women’s Junior Welterweight Title. She continued to fight in 1999. There were recorded events where her opponents would pull out before scheduled fights. One of the highlights during that year was when she made a professional record of 3 wins with no loss. This included her bouts against undefeated Wena Karaka where she won over a unanimous decision on the sixth round at Surfers Paradise in Queensland, Australia, and Jane Couch for the vacant WBF Women’s Lightweight world title in London.
