Ramon came up through the minor leagues in the Oakland As organization. He played for the Arizona League Athletics in 1995.

1997 - Visalia Oaks in the California League, then promoted to the Huntsville Stars in the Southern League.
1998 - He played the entire season for Huntsville.
1999 - Vancouver Canadiens in the Pacific Coast League
Ramon made his debut with the Oakland As in June 1999, as a backup catcher for A.J. Hinch. A year later, Hinch was traded and Ramon became the starting catcher.
After the 2003 season, Oakland traded Ramon to the Padres, mainly for financial reasons. At the time of the deal, he had caught at least 135 games each of the previous four years.
San Diego Padres
Ramon suffered injuries in both 2004 and 2005, and spent time on the disabled list, and then rehabilitating in the minor league system.
Eligible for free agency after 2005, Ramon signed with the Baltimore Orioles.
Baltimore Orioles
Before the 2006 season, Ramon signed a $27.5 million, four-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
