Jerry Sloan a.k.a. Gerald Eugene Sloan was a basketball player with the Chicago Bulls in the NBA playing as a guard. Sloan studied with the University of Evansville and played for the college basketball team called Purple Aces. Sloan was drafted by the Baltimore Bullets in 1964. He however decided to stay back with his college team for another year only to be drafted by the Bullets again in 1965.
In 1966 Sloan joined the Chicago Bulls. Known for his tough defense Sloan earned the nickname “The Original Bull”. Sloan went on to play with the Bulls and was selected four times to the NBA All- defensive First Team, and two times the NBA All- Defensive Second teams. In 1976 Sloan retired from playing basketball after a row of knee injuries.
1976 after retirement he started working as a scout for the Bulls. In 1977 he was asked to serve as the assistant coach of the team. In 1979 Sloan was the head coach of the team. After a relatively poor performance by his team Sloan was fired. Sloan soon turned to scouting for the Utah Jazz. He climbed the ladders and was assistant coach in 1984 and head coach in 1988. Coaching the Jazz and leading them to over 50 wins in 10 seasons and two NBA Finals he surfaced as one of the most victorious coaches.
In his career total of 755 games Sloan averaged at 14.0 point per game.
