Firat Arslan is a Turkish professional boxer in the Cruiserweight division. He was born on the 28th of September, 1970 in Friedberg, Germany. Currently residing in Rottweil, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, he is trained by Michael Timm and managed by Dietmar Poszwa. He is noted for winning his cruiserweight title at 37.
Arslan turned pro in 1997 and went on to win his first 13 fights. However, this was followed by two losses against Collice Mutizwa (defeated him in December 8, 2000) and Ruediger May (defeated him in May 19, 2001). However, he did manage to bounce back after the defeats and managed to achieve a draw in a bout against Vadim Tokaraev, who was then undefeated.
However, despite the success of the fight against Tokaraev, he was defeated on his next match. Arslan lost the fight against Lubos Suda. By 2005, he went on to beat Alexander Petkovic (considered to be a local hero). It was a win that subsequently picked up his career momentum.
It was in his fight against Russian contender, Grigory Drozd, which gave Arslan his big breakthrough. He had managed to dominate his opponent – even knocked him out – who was then undefeated. This victory led to a shot at a title in July of 2007. He went head to head in a bout against another Russian, Valery Brudov, and won the Interim WB Cruiserweight title in a split decision.
After winning the Interim Title, he went on to fight Virgil Hill (43 years old) for the WBA title. He won via unanimous decision in a bout that was held in Freiberger Arena, Dresden Sachsen, Germany. Since then, he has fought once to defend his title against Darnell Wilson in May 3, 2008.
To date, Arslan has a total of 33 fights which resulted in 29 wins (18 knockouts), 3 losses, and 1 draw. He has held the following titles (aside from the WBA World Champion at Cruiserweight): EU Cruiserweight Champion 2004, German Cruiserweight Champ 2004, WBO Intercontinental Champion, WBA Intercontinental Champion.
