Christian Backman is a Swedish defenseman on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Backman was drafted in the 1st round by the St. Louis Blues after spending four seasons with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Elitserien. Backman played with St. Louis from 2002 until 2008, when he was dealt to the New York Rangers at the trade deadline. He has recorded 18 points in each of the last three seasons. Backman was traded to Columbus by New York, along with defenseman Fedor Tyutin, in the 2008 offseason.
Backman won a silver medal at the 2004 World Hockey Championships with Sweden, as well as a gold medal at the 2006 Turin Olympics.
