Luis Javier GarcĂa Sanz, better known simply as Luis Garcia, is a Spanish international footballer who currently plays for the Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. He is essentially a forward who can play along the wings and in the midfield too. He can also be lethal in the "hole" position just behind the striker and in front of the midfielders.
Luis Garcia is actually a graduate of the FC Barcelona youth academy but failed to cut the grades to the first team in his first try. He first played for Atletic Madrid in the 2002-2003 after playing for Real Valladolid among other modest clubs.
He was signed by Barcelona in 2003 and in 2004 he was off to Liverpool and remained there until the summer of 2007. Luis Garcia was signed for 6 million pounds by Liverpool in 2004.
Under manager Rafael Benitez, Luis Garcia developed rapidly at Anfield and played a pivotal role in Liverpool's UEFA Champions League triumph in 2005. But after that his form dropped and only the occasional flashes of brilliance came to the fore.
Luis Garcia was signed by Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2007 for around 4 million pounds but failed to garner a starting berth for himself in the 2007-2008 season at the Vicente Calderon.
Luis Garcia is also a bit-part Spanish international player and has featured 18 times for his nation, scoring 4 goals.
