The Bronze medalist in the World Amateur Boxing Championships held in Houston, Texas has now a professional record of 22 wins by 18 Knockouts. He is also the Gold Medalist in the 2001 Francophone Games.
Lucian Bute, carrying the nicknames of Le Tembeur and Mister Knockout is currently trained by Stéphane Larouche. Larouche also trained Éric Lucas and Leonard Dorin who were former world champions.
Bute was born in Pechea, Galati County, Romania on February 28, 1980. He may hail from Romania, but Bute now lives and fights for Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He became popular when he won the IBF Championships in 2007 for the super middleweight category.
Lucian fought against Australian based Cameroonian boxer Sakio Bika. Bika was a former Olympian and super middleweight contender on June 15, 2007 at Bell Centre in Montreal. Lucian was having a hard time during the first few rounds but Bika was eventually defeated by a unanimous decision. The judges scored the contest in favor of the Romanian boxer after 12 full rounds. Lucian consequently got the IBF title for the elimination round. The victory improved Bute’s professional record by 20-0 that time.
On October 19, 2007, Lucian also won the battle against Alejandro Berrio, and IBF super middleweight champion, by a Technical Knockout in the 11th round. This earned Lucian the position of becoming the third world champion from Romania, following the footsteps of Mihai Leu and Leonard Dorin.
28-year-old Bute, known for his southpaw stance, maintained his 22 wins from his 22 fights. He obviously never lost a fight from day one. He has a record of 135 rounds of boxes and 18 knockouts which is 81.82%.
