Craig Robert Hansen born on November 15, 1983 in Glen Cove, New York, is a relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox.

College
Craig attended St. John's University. He selected the school in 2003, over Columbia, Yale and Hofstra.

Craig did not have much success as a closer until his sophomore season - 2004. He posted a 3-2 record with 14 saves in his junior season (2005), registering 85 strikeouts in 64 innings pitched, a 1.68 ERA, and was named a first-team All-American by Baseball America.

Minor Leagues
Craig was chosen by the Boston Red Sox as the 26th pick in the first round of the 2005 draft. They signed him to a four-year deal valued at $4 million.

Craig was added to the 40-man roster, and after a brief stint in Fort Myers was sent to the AA Portland Sea Dogs. He joined the Boston Red Sox as a late season call-up, making his major league debut on September 19 against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He pitched in 3 more major league games in 2005.

He started the 2006 season in Portland and Pawtucket, but was recalled on June 6 by the Red Sox. However, he was not very successful in this stint.

Craig spent the entire 2007 season with the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox, going 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA, and did not earn a promotion to Boston. He also played in the developmental Arizona Fall League.

Major Leagues
Due to injuries in 2008, Craig is currently on the Red Sox roster. His ERA is cuurently over 5.

Personal
Craig has suffered with sleep apnea for most of his life, and underwent surgery in 2007 in hopes of correcting this condition, which is believed to have affected his stamina and ability to pitch at the major league level.
