Daniel Alfredsson is a Swedish winger on the Ottawa Senators.
Alfredsson has been a staple of the Senators franchise for nearly 15 years, since being drafted in 1994. In ’95-96, his rookie year, Alfredsson won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year, and made his first of a number of All-Star appearances, finishing the seasons with 26 goals and 61 points. He helped the Senators reach the playoffs a number of times near the end of the ‘90s, and was named team captain in 1999. During the lockout, he returned to his former Swedish club, Frolunda HC, and won the Elitserien title. Upon returning from Sweden, Alfredsson had his best career season, finishing with career highs of 43 goals, 60 assists and 103 points. The following season, he led the Senators to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to Anaheim.
Alfredsson played for Team Sweden 12 different times, at nearly every different level of competition aside from the World Juniors. He won 2 bronze medals at the ’99 and 2001 World Championships, 2 silvers at the ’95 and 2004 World Championships, capped by a gold medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics.
