Brian was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 2nd round of the 2002 free agent draft. He played for the Rome Braves (Low A) in 2003, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (High A) in 2004, and the Mississippi Braves (AA) in 2005.
Major Leagues
Brian made his Major League debut on June 10, 2005. He was the personal catcher for John Smoltz for most of the 2005 season, but after everyday catcher Johnny Estrada was traded at the end of the 2005 season, Brian became the every day catcher.
In his brief career to date Brian has set some franchise records for the Braves. He was the first Brave to hit a homerun in his first playoff game at-bat (in the 2005 series). He was also selected to the National League All-Star team in each of his first three seasons, the only Brave so honored.
Personal
Brian married Ashley Jarusinksi in December, 2007, and they live in Duluth, Georgia.
His older brother Brad is a first baseman in the Kansas City organization. His father, Howard, is the former baseball coach at Marshall University.
