Blake was signed in 1999 by Los Angeles, and was dealt to the New York Islanders in 2001. Blake became a top-caliber forward while with the Islanders, setting a career high in 2006-07, with 40 goals and 69 points. He was signed as a free agent by Toronto before the 2007-08 season. Blake was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia at the beginning of the season, but won the Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance and determination, after participating in every regular season game.
Blake played for Team USA at the 2006 Winter Olympics.
