Baloyi is a South-African professional boxer from Giyani, South Africa. Born on November 15, 1974, Baloyi started to box professionally in 1994 and captured the vacant IBF super featherweight title a year later in a match against Manuel Medina. However, the South African lost the title in his first defense against Guyana-born Australian Gary St. Clair later that year in a 12-round unanimous point decision, which raised St. Clair’s wins to 33 and dipped Baloyi’s log to 32 wins against 3 defeats. Baloyi was able to defeat St. Clair on November 12, 2007 in South Africa, which he won in a narrow 12-round elimination victory at the Emperor’s Palace. After the match, Baloyi’s trainer, Nick Durand announced that they planned to fight South African boxer Mzonke Fana, holder of an IBF title, next.

Baloyi won his sixth world championship after beating Fana at the Mafikeng University Sports Complex on April 12, 2008, defeating the South African to win the International Boxing Federation junior-lightweight title, a win which regained him the IBF crown that he surrendered to St. Clair in 2006. In a statement prior to the match, Baloyi said, “This title was unfairly taken from me and given to Gairy St Clair but it is time I take it back.” This victory also made him the first South African boxer to ever achieve 6 world titles.

His next defense is touted to be in September before a mandatory defense against the winner of the match between Malcolm Klassen and a yet-to-be- announced opponent.

Baloyi has won IBO, WBO, WBC and IBF titles during his entire career and currently has a total of 39 matches, with 35 wins, 18 won by KOs, 3 defeats and 1 draw.
