Diana Lurena Taurasi was born on June 11, 1982 in Chino, California, to Mario and Liliana Taurasi. She has one sister, Jessika.

'High School
Diana attended Don Lugo High School, where she received a host of awards including the 2000 Cheryl Miller Award, presented by the Los Angeles Times to the best player in Southern California, and the 2000 Naismith and Parade Magazine National High School Player of the Year.

College
Diana attended the University of Connecticut. She played for the Huskies under coach Geno Auriemma. She led her team to three consecutive NCAA championships.

Diana averaged 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in her collegiate career, and earned a host of accolades. Her teams compiled a record of 139 wins and 8 losses during her tenure.

WNBA
Diana was the #1 overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury.

In 2007, Diana and the Phoenix Mercury won the WNBA championship for the first time.

With this championship, Diana became just the sixth player ever to win an NCAA title, a WNBA title and an Olympic gold medal. (The others to achieve this are Ruth Riley, Sheryl Swoopes, Swin Cash, Kara Wolters, and Sue Bird.)

International
Diana plays in Russia. In the 2005-2006 season, she played for. ŽBK Dynamo Moscow From 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 she played for Spartak Moscow Region.

Diana's father was born in Italy and raised in Argentina, where her mother Liliana was born. Her parents immigrated to the United States before she was born.
