Ashish Bagai is a right-handed batsman and also a wicketkeeper who is the skipper of the Canadian Cricket team.
In 1996 Bagai played for the inaugural Under-15s Cricket World Cup during which he was adjudged the best wicketkeeper of the tournament. In January/February 2000 in the Under-19s World Cup he had the highest batting average. For the 2002 Under-19s World Cup his batting was very significant as it helped Canada to manage a tie with Bangladesh.
During the 2001 ICC trophy he spent a night in the hospital as he was hit in the face while keeping and on the next day he played an impressive innings and guided the Canadians to victory over the UAE.
After the above mentioned matches Bagai became the mainstay of the Canada Cricket team. He made his debut against Bangladesh in the 2003 World Cup. Since then he has played 24 one-day internationals and this is more than any other player from Canada.
Major achievements
Bagai is the holder of the Canadian record for the highest one-day international score as he scored 137 not out against Scotland. During these innings Bagai and Asif Mulla had a partnership of 100 runs for the fourth wicket which was the first ever century stand for Canada in a one-day international.
