Gianluca Zambrotta is a veteran Italian international footballer currently with the Spanish and European giants FC Barcelona. He won the 2006 Germany World Cup with Italy and has garnered several other trophies in his long and illustrious career mostly spent in the right back position.

Zambrotta commenced his playing career at Italian minnows Como which is based in his hometown. His firsts season as a professional was spend in the Italian Serie B and that was in 1994-1995 when he was just 17 years of age. In 1997, Gianluca Zambrotta was signed by AS Bari, then in the Italian Serie A.

In the middle of the 1999-2000 season, Zambrotta was signed by Italian giants Juventus for a staggering 16 million euros and stayed at Juventus until the summer of 2006. He made an astounding 217 matches in all competitions for the Old lady of Turin and more importantly developed into a world class right back with amazing pace and solidity at the back. He won four scudetti with Juventus in his tenure there but the last two were declared annulled because of Juventus’ involvement in match-fixing.

Gianluca Zambrotta was signed by FC Barcelona for 14 million euros in the summer of 2006 immediately after he had won the World Cpp with Italy in Germany but his 2007-2008 season in Spain has been pretty much a disappointing one both in terms of his personal achievements and success with the Catalan giants.

Zambroatta won his first international cap for Italy in February, 1999 and has since played in 70 matches for his nation. He has featured in Euro 2000, World Cup 2002, Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006.
