One of the best amateur golfers to come out of Korea, Na Yeon Choi first came into the limelight by beating Se Ri Pak in 2004 and winning the ADT-CAPS Invitational title on the KLPGA Tour. She was just 17 years old and became a big star in South Korea. On the same year, she turned professional.
Choi started playing golf at age 11 and became part of the Korean National Team. After turning professional, she played the following year at the Lake Side Ladies Open still on the Korean LPGA Tour and won. She dominated the KB Star Tour on the KLPGA played at Hampyung in 2006. In 2007, she was unstoppable at the KLPGA tied for eight place at the Hana Bank, a fourth place finish at the Shinsegye Cup and tied for 20th at the LPGA Qualifying Tournament which gave her non-exempt status for this year’s LPGA season.
In her first year of the LPGA, she has shown incredible talent starting the season at the SBS Open averaging T32. So far, her best finishes this year was the HSBC Women’s Championship finishing T14, the Kraft Nabisco Championship and Ginn Tribute at T6 and the MasterCard Classic and Corona Morelia Championship with average scoring of T5. Just this May, she has reached her biggest finish to date, at T2 in the Sybase Classic pulling in $114, 360 in winnings. She is currently competing in the LPGA US Women’s Open.
Her total earnings for 2008 is almost half a million dollars already and she still has the rest of the year for tournaments. She is 2008’s LPGA Rookie of the Year.
