Shin was born on April 28, 1988 in South Korea. Her life before she turned a professional golfer in 2005 was not an easy one. Despite it all she won the SK Enclean Invitational of the 2005 KLPGA event. She was only a high school student and an amateur then. She became a rookie in 2006 and took the top 3 position in the first events and won three more events in the season.
The following year commemorated her career. She won 10 out of 19 KPLGA events. She competed in three of the four women’s major championships. She was placed sixth at the U.S. Women’s Open after leading the tournament into the final round. She also claimed the third spot at the Evian Masters of the Ladies European Tour. She was the no. 8th Korean golfer in the world by the end of 2007.
But in 2008 Shin and Eun-Hee Ji gave way to the Filipino players, Dorothy Delasin and Jennifer Rosales in the Women’s World Cup of Golf. Shin and Ji scored 16 while Delasin and Rosales scored 18.
Ji-Yai Shin achieved 20 professional wins- 17 of which are from the KPLGA Tours alone and 3 from individual competitions. She received 3 major awards: KLPGA Best Amateur in 2005; KLPGA Rookie of the Year in 2006; and KLPGA Best Player of the Year in 2007.
