Yani Tseng
Yani Tseng, one of the few fresh faces on the LPGA tour just happened to turned pro in the year 2007. Still, Tseng refuses to be underestimated because even before turning pro, she has already an accomplished amateur Golf career. By the way, she is still 19 years old and already has 3 professional wins in the bag.
Before turning pro, Tseng was already considered as Taiwan’s top-ranked amateur golfer for the years 2004 to 2006. From 2003 to 2005, Tseng has a recorded 3 wins, 2 second places, and one reaching the semi-finals. In 2003, she won the Callaway Junior Golf Championship, her first major win for her amateur career. In 2004, she managed to end the Callaway Junior Golf Championship in second place. Her most memorable win on 2004 was in the US Women’s Amateur Public Links where she won and in the process, managed to defeat Michelle Wie. In 2005, Tseng won the North and South Women’s Amateur Golf Championship and in the same year she reached the semi-finals for the US Women’s Amateur Public links. Still in 2005, Tseng landed in the second spot for the second North and South Women’s Amateur Golf Championship event of the year.
On January 2007, Tseng decided to turn professional. In her debut year, she joined the Ladies Asian Golf Tour and the DLF Women’s Indian Open, winning the latter. Still in her debut year, she joined the CN Canadian Women’s Tour and won. In December 2007, Tseng finished sixth in the LPGA Qualifying tournament. This gained Tseng full playing privileges for the LPGA Tour on 2008. It was on June 2008 that she won her first LPGA Tour title, making her the first Taiwanese player to even win in an LPGA major tournament and the youngest player to do so. Everyone has their eyes peeled for Tseng’s performance in the remaining 2008 season.
