Marco António Simões Caneira is a Portuguese international footballer who currently features for the Spanish giants Valencia. He plays as a defender and represented Portugal in the 2002 and 2006 World Cup finals.
Marco Caneira made his professional debut for Portuguese giants Sporting Club de Portugal in 1995 after graduating from the club's youth academy. Yet he had to play the better fraction of his Sporting career away on loan and in a very complicated move was transferred to the Italian and European powerhouse Inter Milan.
At Milan too, he played the part of a loanee and except for one season he was sent on loan to Reggina, Benfica and Bordeaux. In the summer of 2004, Caneira was signed by Spanish powerhouse Valencia but didn't manage play much for the first team. He was sent on loan to his old club Sporting Club de Portugal for the 2006-2007 season and has since returned to the Mestalla.
