Roberto Carlos “Pato” Abbondanzieri is an Argentine international footballer who currently features for the Spanish club Getafe. He is a goalkeeper and is a first choice for both club and country.

Roberto Abbondanzieri made his professional debut for Argentine side Rosario Central in 1994 and played over 50 league matches for them and also won the 1995 Conmebol Cup.

In 1996 he moved to Argentine superpower Boca Juniors and failed to thread into the starting xi until 2002 when first choice custodian Oscar Cordoba moved to Italian side Perugia.

Since then until the summer of 2006 Abbondanzieri was the first choice goalie for Boca and played close to 200 league matches for the club. He also won the Apertura championship with Boca four times (1998,2000,2003,2005) and won the Clausura in 1999 and 2006. He won the Copa Libertodores with Boca in 2000,2001 and 2003 and the Copa Sudamericana in 2004 and 2005.

Abbondanzieri moved to Spanish side Getafe in the summer of 2006 on a three-year contract and is the first choice for his club.

He made his international debut for Argentina in June 2004 and featured for them in Copa America 2004, Confederations Cup 2005 and the 2006 Germany World Cup.
