Geoff Ogilvy made himself known in the world of Golf as the first Australian after Steve Elkins to ever win a men’s Golf major. He turned pro in the year 1998 and is now on his 10th professional year. In his first season, Ogilvy impressed many when he was able to finish in the 65th rank. He improved in his second season and moved up to rank 48. In 2001, after playing the European tours, Ogilvy joined the US PGA tour. He was able to finish at the top 100 for his first five seasons.

Ogilvy finally relished in glory after his first professional tournament win in 2005 in the Chrysler Classic of Tucson. The year after, he was able to beat Davis Love III in the 2006 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Ogilvy’s first major championship win was at the 2006 US Open where he played with Phil Mickelson. Fortunately, Phil Mickelson gave up a two shot lead that gave Ogilvy the chance to grab the major championship, the first Australian to do so after Steve Elkington back in 1995. After winning his first major championship, Ogilvy moved up to the top 10 in the world rankings, specifically at number 8. July 9, 2006, Ogilvy moved up one notch and was placed at number 7. To date, Ogilvy has spent over a number of 50 weeks in the top 10 world rankings.

2008 is an even better year for Ogilvy. His first win during this year was during the WGC-CA Championship which also happened to be his second World Golf Championship title. In the 2008 Shell Houston Open, he finished tied for second place which was responsible for moving him to the number 5 rank in the Official World Golf Rankings. This is the highest rank achieved by Geoff Ogilvy to date. With many more tournaments to go, many are wondering if he can hold on to spot. To date, Ogilvy has 4 professional wins, all from PGA tours and one Major Championship win.
