Alberto Gilardino is an Italian international footballer who currently features for the Italian side Fiorentina. He plays as a stiker and won the 2006 Germany World Cup with Italy. He was signed by Fiorentina from AC Milan in the summer of 2008.
Alberto Gilardino started his professional football career at Piacenza in the Italian Serie A in 1999. In 2001 Gilardino was sold to fellow Italian side Hellas Verona. He stayed in Verona for two seasons playing 39 games and scoring 5 goals. In 2002 Alberto Gilardino transferred to Parma FC. He played for Parma FC for three seasons playing 96 games and scoring 50 goals. The last two seasons Gilardino was the second best scorer in Serie A.
It was at Parma that Gilardino developed into one of the most sought after strikers in Italy. He earned a reputation of being the goal machine and in the summer of 2005 Alberto Gilardino was signed by AC Milan for 24 million euros.
In his first season with AC Milan in the 2005-2006 season, Gilardino scored 17 goals in Serie A. He played two minutes in the UEFA Champions League final 2- 1 victory over Liverpool FC in 2007. In the season 2006-2007 he scored 12 goals for AC Milan and was their best goal scorer.
On May 25,2008 Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino announced that Fiorentina have indeed signed Gila for 14 million euros.
Alberto Gilardino made his international debut for Italy only in 2004 but played in the 2006 Germany World Cup that Italy won. He has scored 9 goals in 25 international matches so far.
