RJ Umberger (Richard Jr.) is an American center on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Umberger is a Pennsylvania native, and drew notice after an exceptional high school career. In his sophomore year, Umberger scored 116 points in only 26 games. He played his college career at Ohio State University, after being drafted in 2001 by the Vancouver Canucks. He was dealt to the New York Rangers and then signed with the Flyers in 2004.
In 2005-06 Umberger made his NHL debut, after winning the Calder Cup with the Philadelphia Phantoms during the NHL lockout season in 2004-05. Umberger scored 20 goals and 38 points in his rookie season, but was knocked out of the playoffs with a concussion after Brian Campbell caught him with his head down. In 2007-08 Umberger set career highs with 37 assists and 50 points in only 74 games.
