Iziane Castro Marques (nicknamed Izi) was born on March 13, 1982 in São Luís, Maranhão.
Izi was born in Brazil, but attended school in the United States. In 2001, when she was just 19, she led the Paulista League in scoring in her native Brazil.
University
Izi attended Florida International University.
WNBA
Izi was signed by the Miami Sol as a free agent out of Florida International University. She was the youngest player in the WNBA at 21 years, 1 month, 12 days old.
The next year she went to the Phoenix Mercury. In both these clubs she came off the bench.
In 2005, Izi joined the Storm, and became a starter for the first time. She lost her starting position to rookie Barbara Turner in 2006 due to erratic play, but regained it after eight games as a reserve.
On February 6, 2008 Izi was traded to the Atlanta Dream along with the Storm's first round pick for the fourth overall pick and Roneeka Hodges. She started in the first four games of the season, but is now injured.

Izi's Brazilian team has finished fourth in two consecutive international competitions, the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2006 FIBA World Championship for Women, which Brazil hosted.
