Martin Biron is a Canadian goalie on the Philadelphia Flyers.
Biron was drafted in 1995 by the Buffalo Sabres. Biron played sparingly between 1995 and 2000, struggling in the few opportunities that he got to play. After developing further in the QMJHL, Biron was called up to be the Sabres' backup in 2000. In 2001-02, he started 69 games, finishing with 31 wins and a 2.22 GAA. The arrival of Ryan Miller did little to help Biron get more playing time and at the close of the 2006 season, he requested a trade. In 2007, Biron signed with the Flyers and was named their starting goalie.
Biron has been one of the major reasons that the Flyers were able to make such a quick turnaround. In 2006-07, they finished last in the Eastern Conference. In 2007-08, behind Biron's 30 wins and 2.59 GAA, they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Biron has played for Team Canada twice, once at the Junior Championships in 1996 and in the 2003 World Championships. He was a backup both times.
