Darryl Sydor is a Canadian defenseman on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Sydor was drafted in 1990 by the Los Angeles Kings. He played in LA until 1996, when he was traded to the Dallas Stars. Sydor grew into his own in Dallas, playing as part of their powerful defensive corps which included Sergei Zubov, Derian Hatcher and Richard Matvichuk. In 1999, Sydor won his first Stanley Cup in Dallas, while setting a career high in goals (14) and tying his career high in points (48). Sydor remained in Dallas until being traded to Columbus in 2003.
The Tampa Bay Lightning traded for Sydor in 2003, and he helped them win their first Stanley Cup. He returned to Dallas in 2006 where he played one more season before being signed by Pittsburgh for the 2007-08 season. Despite playing in 74 regular season games, Sydor only played in 4 playoff games, all of which came in the Cup Finals against Detroit.
Sydor won a gold medal at the 1992 World Junior Championships with Team Canada, and played in the 1994 and 1996 World Cups. In 2006, Sydor was naturalized as a US citizen with his wife and children.
