DE Dorsey Signed by Chiefs to Deal Worth $51 Mill

Sunday, July 27, 2008 -- The Kansas City Chiefs knew that they had to find someone to replace their former sack-man. Chiefs' standout Jared Allen, who had 15.5 sacks in 2007, signed a free-agent deal with the Minnesota Vikings and the organization saw that there was no one onboard who could replace his output and always-in-the-game attitude.

So Kansas City, with the fifth overall pick, went with LSU standout Glenn Dorsey. Dorsey was a First-team All-American who managed to be dominant despite numerous back and knee problems. In his senior season, during which he missed three games with an ankle injury and knee problems, he posted 64 tackles with 11.5 being for loses. He also had six sacks and a forced fumble.

Dorsey explodes off the ball and when played one-on-one is impossible to stop. His past injuries are worrisome, but he is presently healthy. The DT possesses excellent tools.

Dorsey said in a news conference, "I promise I'll work hard." And he should with a five-year, $51 million deal that includes $22 million guaranteed. Dorsey, a holdout, missed just one day of camp and arrived at the Chiefs' training center in Baton Rouge, La., in time for meetings.

After arriving at camp, he said, "I'm just excited to be here, to stand before you all and get to work with my teammates and my coaches." He added, "My agent did a great job. The Chiefs did a great job. It was a great agreement."

Dorsey will make an immediate contribution but don't expect him to reach his full potential for a few seasons. The NFL is a whole different game than NCAA football.
