Friday, July 25 2008 -- Friday, July 25, 2008 - There were four games in the WNBA on Friday.
In the early games, the Los Angeles Sparks lost a heart breaker, 69-68 to the New York Liberty.
Candice Parker, Lisa Leslie and DeLisha Milton-Jones returned from their one-game suspensions, but their combined firepower was not enough to raise them up over the Liberty.
Trailing 68-67 with 11 seconds left, the Liberty's Janel McCarville drove on Lisa Leslie and scored in the lane. On the other end of the court, Leslie was not able to return the favor.
McCarville led New York with 15 points. Shameka Christon added 13.
For the Sparks, DeLisha Milton-Jones had 19 points, Leslie had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Candace Parker contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Liberty are now 14-10, and have won five of their last six games.
The Washington Mystics defeated the Atlanta Dream by 6, 81-75.
Taj McWilliams-Franklin of the Mystics scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Alana Beard put in 12 points, and Monique Currie and Bernice Mosby each had 11.
The expansion Dream have now lost four straight, and their record is now 3-23.
Iziane Castro Marques scored 23 points for Atlanta. Betty Lennox, the Dream's leading scorer, has been undergoing a scoring drought and contributed only 6 points to the cause.
