Thursday in the WNBA

Thursday, July 24 2008 -- Thursday, July 24, 2008 - There were five games scheduled for Thursday night in the WNBA:

The San Antonio Silver Stars beat the Chicago Sky 78 - 67. They now are in first place in the Western Conference.

The Sacramento Monarchs kept the Mercury low by defeating them 83-74. This was the Monarchs' sixth straight win, and the Mercury have lost five of their last seven and are now 11-14.

In overtime, the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Indiana Fever, 84 - 80, in overtime. It was a costly win, however, as rookies Candice Wiggins and Charde Houston were injured (at different times) and removed from the court in wheelchairs. The Fever lost for the fourth time in five games.

Connecticut made the Sun set on the Los Angeles Sparks, 87 - 61. The Sparks were without their rising star, Candace Parker, as well as Lisa Leslie and DeLisha Milton-Jones.

And finally, the Detroit Shock, playing without Plenette Pierson but with Nancy Lieberman (albeit in limited minutes) were defeated by the Houston Comets, 79-61.

The Shock managed to keep it close for the first half, but tired and had no chance in the second.
