Monday, July 21 2008 -- Italian international defender Fabio Cannavaro has won everything there is to win in football(well, almost everything) and at almost 35 years of age is nearing the end of the road.
The 2006 Germany World Cup winner is currently with Spanish and European giants Real Madrid but his contract is about to expire at the end of next season. Cannavaro signed a three year contract with the Merengues in the summer of 2006 after he decided to leave Juventus in the wake of the Calciopoli scandal.
Cannavaro has have had a mixed couple of seasons for the Madrid giants but is still considered an important fraction of the set-up. But there is no chance that Real are to renew his contract at the end of the 2008-2009 season and the almost 25-year old Italian legend is looking to play for the Italian romance Napoli.
Cannavaro’s agent has explained his client’s situation and has declared that at the end of his Real Madrid career, the 2006 FIFA Player of the Year would like to play for the Naples side.
"The current situation is that Fabio Cannavaro is about to begin his last season with the shirt of Real Madrid,” Gaetano Fedele told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“We will see what happens during the season, and whether or not there is the possibility to renew his contract.
“However, his dream has always been to return to wear the jersey of Napoli. So ..."
