Brett Favre continues to be the prima donna

The Green Bay Packers will not grant Brett Favre his release from his contract (at least, that's what they're saying today!) and would be glad to have him come back as a backup to their own quarterback.

Favre, meantime, is explaining that he never was "fully committed" to retiring...and only did it because he didn't feel welcome in Green Bay.

According to the official report:

According to Van Susteren, who spoke to the AP by telephone Monday afternoon, Favre said he was "never fully committed" to retiring and felt pressured by the Packers to make a decision, a notion Packers general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy tried to dispel in an interview with the AP on Saturday.

Favre is tarnishing his memory in Green Bay with every word.

So many teams need quarterbacks, however, that they'll doubtless be pressuring Green Bay to let Favre go. It will be interesting to see if he manages to earn a starting position out of training camp, and how long he'll last next season.
