Wednesday, July 9, 2008 -- The Los Angeles Sparks got off to a slow start in their game against the Houston Comets, falling behind by 13 in the second quarter, but rallied to tie it (on a pair of free throws by Candace Parker) and take the game into overtime. They then rode the momentum to an 82-74 victory.
The game was an especially memorable one, as the only two women to have scored 5,000 points in the WNBA - Lisa Leslie for the Sparks and Tina Thompson for the Comets, met for the first time since Thompson joined that elite club.
The show was stolen by Candace Parker, however, who had a monster night: 40 points, 16 boards, 6 assists, and 2 steals. And to round out her night, 5 blocks.
And one of those blocks was against Tina Thompson at the end of the 4th quarter, preventng the Comets from retaking the lead, and forcing the game into overtime.
For the Comets, Tina Thompson led with 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
