The Boston Red Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins, 6-5.
Red Sox rookie Jacoby Ellsbury broke out of his slump at just the right time, going 2 for 4 and scoring two runs for the Sox, and more importantly getting on board in the 8th inning with a double, which opened the door for the Sox to tie the game in that inning on a home run by Manny Ramirez. (And that was a slump-breaker by Manny, as well.)
The Sox jumped out to a one run lead in the first inning, but fell behind 5-2 by the top of the 8th.
But Jacoby, Pedroia, Manny and Youkilis combined to not only tie the game but also go ahead by a run.
The Twins were unable to rally against Jonathan Papelbon in the 9th, despite a lead-off double by Nick Punto. Denard Span sacrificed Punto to third, but that's as far as he was able to get.
