The wide receiver played college football for the Kentucky Wildcats. In 2006, his most productive and healthiest season, he caught 77 passes for a total of 1,036 yards. He made 12 touchdown receptions. While with the Wildcats, Burton was one of the team's most prolific receivers. He became the fifth Kentucky player to accumulate more than 4,000 total receiving and running yards in his college career.

In four college seasons, he played in a total of 45 games as a wide receiver and kick return specialist. The six-foot-one, 200-pound wideout finished second in touchdowns, third in receiving yards and fourth in receptions. He may have amassed even more impressive stats if it weren't for various injuries that he suffered while at Kentucky.

After his senior year, the receiver underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee. Later that year, he was invited to the 2008 NFL Scouting Combine, which was held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Burton proved to be one of the top performers, finishing first in the vertical jump and third in the 60-yard shuttle. His vertical jump was measured at 38.5 inches. His 60-yard shuttle time came in at 11.36 seconds. He also did well in the broad jump, 20-yard shuttle, and three-cone drill.

Burton signed his deal with the Rams on the Fourth of July. He's scheduled to report to the St. Louis training camp on July 25.
