The ITF developed their Olympic book entitled, "Journey to Beijing – Tennis Celebrates the Olympics". This was intended to promote and highlight tennis as a sport in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. 44 of the most popular tennis players supported the project and were in fact featured in different summer and winter Olympics sporting gears. Some of the big names that were included were Roger Federer, posing as fencer; Ana Ivanovic as beach volleyball player; Rafael Nadal as football player; Novak Djokovic as a ski athlete; Maria Sharapova as gymnast; and Serena Williams as an ice skater. In addition, two of the tennis Olympic champions Fernando Gonzalez and Nicolas Massu were marathon runners while Esther Vergeer, the world's No. 1 player in wheelchair, posed as a basketball player.
Aside from their interesting poses, they also shared their personal thoughts, opinions, insights and hopes on the upcoming Olympic Game. They talked about their fond memories when they were yet children and during the times they were exposed to the big event.
The one-hundred-forty-paged publication took more than six months of preparation and shooting from different places and venue. They went as far as Tel Aviv, Netherlands, Barcelona, Shanghai, Dubai, Indian Wells, Palm Beach, Los Angeles, Miami, Melbourne, Moscow, Santiago, and Beijing.
Francesco Ricci Bitti believed that the book symbolized the pride and honour of the tennis players of this generation. They also have the privilege to represent their own countries. It highlighted the progress of tennis as a world sport since it returned to the Olympic Games in 1988.
