SPL's executive chairman, Lex Gold, was in a very buoyant mood after the declaration of the deal and was optimistic that the deal could see the domestic league in Scotland develop manifold. He said:

"Ten years ago we spoke about delivering a brighter future for Scottish football. Today, as we look ahead to our next 10 years we can do so with confidence. An investment on this scale, 125 million pounds, marks the biggest ever TV deal in Scottish football history. No commercial deal comes close to matching what has been achieved today by the SPL and Setanta Sports for our game.

"This is a step change for our clubs and will allow them to re-invest to make the Scottish game even stronger."

The Scottish Premier League has the reputation of being a second-rate at best domestic league with either Glasgow Rangers or Glasgow Celtic dominating the league every season. This TV deal ought to increase the TV revenue for each club and maybe in the long run the lesser clubs would be at least able to compete.
