Lawson made some remarks that were regarded as insulting by the reporters and hence Lawson's press conference was boycotted by the local media as well as the Indians which were present there.

When the press conference began Lawson remarked that it was essential to have some ground rules before the reporters started asking questions. He hinted that the media should not make any statements and simply ask questions. He further remarked that he would reply only the sensible questions.

The statement of Lawson provoked a local journalist to ask him whether he would dictate the press regarding what should be done. To this Lawson commented that the journalist's English was not very good. As a result of these statements the situation got worse. Some people also heard Lawson telling another journalist that his demeanor was rude. Due to all these happenings the local media walked out of the press conference room. While Lawson was waiting for the lift to go to the dressing room, he was jeered. The local media had asked some questions regarding the performance of the team as well as the selection matters.
